Yuen Fong Ling (b.1972 Salford UK) is an artist, and recent graduate from Glasgow School of ArtÂ’s MFA programme from 2005-2007, including an exchange with Hunter College New York in Autumn/Winter 2006. Ling is now embarking on his PhD in Fine Art at the University of Lincoln.

Previously, Ling was the recipient of the Woo Arts Traineeship Scheme from Arts Council England based at Cornerhouse and Chinese Arts Centre Manchester from 1996-1998. He was Curator then Co-Director for Castlefield Gallery Manchester from 1999-2005. Ling has exhibited and curated widely including International-3 Manchester, Tramway Glasgow, Artnews Projects Berlin, The Central Academy of Fine Art Beijing touring throughout China, Denmark, Australia and UK, and Urbis Manchester.

Ling merges the roles of model, artist and curator into a single practice. He uses these strategies to make, 'self-read' and manipulate the authority of the work of art. By conceptually (and literally) working from the position of the life model of the academic life class, he aims to reappraise the relationships of power within this format, often transposing them into public spaces. His recent projects collaborate with existing groups of professional/amateur artists and members of the public to develop presentations of work inverting the relationship between model and artist, artist and audience. Ling aims to work within existing power structures and hierarchies to reveal the inherent (often hidden) nature of these relationships.
