Elements of performance transform this vertical frieze into a tableau vivant of archeological discovery and an exploration of geological forms. Although movement is almost imperceptible, hands are revealed through small openings in this Earthly totem. Fingers adorned with faceted and polished stones are buried between layers of ancient rocks and fossils. It is unclear why these semi-precious treasures have returned to the Earth from which they were once mined. Built from sculptural components including plaster, fabric and foil, ‘Earthly Strata, Studded with the Minerals of Time’ plays with themes intrinsic to my work such as the submerged body and the mythic and transformational qualities of the natural world
