The Maid's Project, 2004
oil on canvas, Dimensions Variable
The Maid's Project is a work in progress and an ongoing exploration of women in domestic service, including myself. As an art student, I was a maid and went from my art classes to domestic service in a private club for women, back and forth between two different worlds. Both endeavors encouraged a private sanctuary in the mind where I found myself daydreaming. As a maid, I was mute and invisible and daydreaming broke up the tedium and loneliness. As an art student, daydreaming was a conscious part of creativity in the act of finally becoming visible.
