My work is greatly influenced by my studies of social psychology, particularly research on conversational structures, pauses, and turn-taking in social interaction. This clinical element is mitigated by nostalgia for my grandparents seemingly arcane way of life and especially their frequent formal garden parties. As a child I would attend these adult events as an observer, not particularly listening to the conversations but observing gestures and stances, and gathering a superficial understanding of what these scenes were all about.
