Ao Dai, 2012

grapefruit skins, cotton thread, 10" x 3" x 3"

An ao dai is the national costume of Vietnam. This piece was created after I spent a month in Vietnam, on a history course learning about the Vietnam War. I wanted to capture a the eery presence felt around the country as visitors notice the scars of war in its landscape, infrastructure and people. This piece started my exploration of healing and utilization of skin-like materials.
