Joannie Redux, 2010
digital animation projected onto site-specific charcoal drawing, x 80 x 75", Duration Variable
For Honfleur Gallery's "Likeness" exhibit, I was pared with Washington DC photographer Matt Dunn. The concept of the show was that a non-photograph based artist would re-interpret a photograph by their partner. In this case, I used Dunn's amazing photograph "Joannie", depicting it's namesake standing in a vintage bikini on a crowded city bus. I took this image and made a wacky little animation on top of it. I then drew directly onto the wall "on top" of the projection. The result was a double graffiti: one the animation done on the original photograph, and the second on the wall over my video.
