Behind the girl we see the famous location of Tiananmen Gate Tower, with the portrait of Chairman Mao and the exhortation, "Long live The Peoples Republic of China". In the foreground corner are police security lines for crowd control. The T-shirt text adds an ambiguous and ambivalent twist -- perhaps straight-forward praise of the patriotic enthusiasm of the country, or perhaps, more chillingly, an ironic but matter-of-fact comment on the government's success at suppressing the knowledge of events surrounding June 1989 from the minds of Chinese youth.
