Myth of Golden Cities, 2013
2 x 4s, artist designed wallpaper, Dimensions Variable
(Wide view on left, detail on right)
With this work, I seek to uncover the modern connection and disconnection people have to their surrounding landscape. I show we have a variety of relationships with nature and consider how these relationships shift and reshape over time. To to this, I used second growth 2 x 4s to reference modern times, and wallpaper I designed using a repeating image of deer, fencing, and wild flowers in blue and white referencing old English pottery.
Additionally, this work explores the invisibility of labor in the woods and mountains in logging communities through covering the 2 x 4 with wallpaper.
