Night of the Comet, 2013
watercolor on paper, 38" x 31"
Keri Oldham is a New York-based artist working in watercolor, paper and video. Her work explores our intense connection to movies and characters as a way of understanding our own place in reality. In her 'Space for All Endings,' series paintings and video present a collection of different cinematic endings that explore memory, time and space. The pieces combine film ending fonts taken from movies during the 1930s-1970s and attaches them to planetary constellations traveling through space. Oldham's work is both a celebration of film as well as an attempt to show how the stories we encounter are not ends in themselves but passing titles in a larger reality.
Oldham is also a writer and curator as well as of Field Projects, an artist-run project space in Chelsea. Her work has been spotlighted and reviewed by Beautiful/Decay Magazine, Gwaker Arts, Glasstire, D Magazine, San Francisco Weekly and others.
