Walking the Invisible City, 2011
Sandblasted concrete, collected stories, history, podcast, map, x 24 x 24", Duration Variable
Walking the Invisible City (2010-11), downtown Oakland’s first permanent walking tour, was created in collaboration with local multicultural community groups. This unique walking tour, with over 30 conversational markers etched into the city sidewalks, explores lost history and vanished architecture. Based on neighbors’ stories shared with us during the 10,000 Steps project, this open-ended tour creates a rich and lasting legacy that is built upon a deep relationship with the community.
Walking the Invisible City was launched at the Oakland Museum of California and includes a podcast: http://10ksteps.org/tour.html
