To have control is to have the ability to direct your behavior; I am interested in what happens when this ability is enacted towards the experience of losing control and the uncertainty between these polarities. My recent project, Pratfalls, examines this simultaneous experience. It parodies the intentional falls and missteps of physical comedy, looking at the ambiguity between what is calculated and what is involuntary. Whereas comedy alleviates fear and stress, my work focuses on the act divorced from humor. It reveals the tension and the calculation of movements, showing the vulnerability of the body as it futilely seeks to control the unknown and the involuntary within a fall.
