Peter Brueghel's "The Magpie on the Gallows" is a work containing a lot of conflicting emotions. In the original, peasants dance around rotting gallows as birds perch on the decaying beams. The contrast between the joy of dance and the horror of execution is very powerful in this piece. This color test is an exploration of the two emotions presented. The left focuses on the somber sentiments that the gallows stand for while the right examines the ecstasy, almost madness of the peasants.
