The work “A Small Step for Man” is inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s the Zone in conjunction with Ponce de León’s Quest for the Fountain of Youth. Approached from an ethnographic viewpoint the stillness of the camera frame presents a space in which time does not stand still. The outline of an archetypal young man within the frame is bound to an evolution of time. The time within the frame is interchangeably racing forward and backward, referring to the process of aging and disintegration in comparison to the phenomenon of youth and rejuvenation. The work’s title “A Small Step for Man” refers to an element of choice within a proliferation of space that every man traverses.
