Acrylic on Lanaquarelle, Dimensions Variable
In this suite of 15 paintings, I reconsider the scale and materiality of Mark Rothko's monumental "field" paintings. With the airbrush, I remove the hand from the work, thus flattening these fields. Atmosphere is replaced by immediacy and design. Here the Rothko's are more like averages. Like jpegs, they are conceptually and technically a reduction of the original.
