What Revolution, 2008
Photography, 150" x 88"
Inspired by Fidel Castro, the former leader of Cuba. His slogan "What is revolution?" is printed on large posters all over Havana. In my version, "What Revolution", it could be a question in the form that Castro meant it or could be an exclamation, perhaps of exasperation, that people no longer care about the revolution or its values but only about wealth and commodity. On the childs T-shirt the Chinglish ELLTE morphs "elite" and "Elle" (the popular fashion magazine) and becomes a wry comment on the state of the communist revolution.
