Pitcher with two shadows, 2014
print, 20" x 24"
As an artist I am interested in camouflage, experiments, illusions, the invisible, relationships of pressure and mass, perception. A moon shaped hole in the sky. There is a disconnect between the way we experience things and the way we know them to be. That is the space where I like to work.
Problem solving is part of my process, and I often create ephemeral sculptures and use time based techniques to create the images which usually begin as sketches and drawings.
All of the effects and images are created in real time and recorded on medium format film or a digital file. There is a performative aspect to the work that is important. Sometimes the enigmatic aspects I’m driving for escape me and simply evaporate under examination, other times, I prevail. Some favorite artists: Sharon Core, Leiko Shiga, Gerhard Richter, Gilbert Garcin, Abelardo Morell, Masao Yamamoto.
Artistic Ancestors: Peter Fischli and David Weiss’s 1980’s Equilibres work, Giorgio Morandi, Jo Ann Callis, Laura Letinsky.
