Landscape Conversation #2, 2013
Outdoor Sound Installation, 6m 0s, Dimensions Variable
Landscape Conversation #2 is a site-specific sound work installed in a field next to a barn. The piece plays multiple times a day, introducing tones very gradually, beginning from a point, then spreading out across the landscape while gradually increasing their volume and changing positioning of tones. By navigating the environment, the viewer will find different perspectives of tone combinations. The sound acts as a sensory obstruction that should heighten the perception of what is already happening around in the environment sonically and otherwise, in a similar way to how putting on a blindfold would heighten senses. Consider the sound to be an artificial landscape overlaid on the existing one - sort of the sonic equivalent of a gel filter sheet, except changing over time.
